Mount Moffett
    3924 ft (1196 m) .
Location: Northern end of Adak Island
in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska
Lat / Long: 51.9° N, 176.7° W
Volcanic Type: Stratovolcano
Volcanic Status: Dormant
First Ascent:
First Ski Descent:
Skiable Vertical: over 3300 ft (1000 m)
Lift Served Vertical:   former rope tow on lower slopes
Administration:   Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge

Mount Moffett has been skied more times than all of the other volcanoes in the Aleutians combined. This certain fact is due not to its stature, but to its location just northwest of Adak, the only city in the outer part of the Aleutian Islands (and the southernmost city in Alaska). Until 2000, Adak was home to a major military base and over 6000 people, but since the Navy closed its facilities, the area reverted to the control of a native Aleut corporation and the population has dropped to about 300. Nevertheless, extensive infrastructure remains, including an airport with jet service from Anchorage. Mount Moffett formerly had a rope tow on its lower slopes, but access remains very easy from the edge of town, and a ski ascent and descent could easily be made in a day trip from Adak.
