Evening Light on South Sister
This final view catches the early evening light on South Sister. High clouds have begun to move in, and by the time we skied down through the woods to the car, the skies were mostly cloudy. We hoped to conclude our week-long trip by lift-served skiing at Mount Bachelor the next day. We car-camped at a snow park a few miles east, but the next morning it was raining steadily as we drove into the Bachelor parking lot. So we made the best of it, and spent a dry day east of the Cascade Crest, sightseeing in Newberry Crater National Mounment. Newberry is a very interesting place, we explored the Big Obsidian Flow, the Lava Butte cinder cone, and a couple of lava tubes (Lava River Cave and South Ice Cave, which has permanent ice and icicles inside) before driving back to Seattle through torrential downpours.
