We eventually reached a steep slot, with continuous snow but a large waterfall flowing underneath. The snowpack looked thick enough and solid, so I skied quickly down the pitch and made it safely. That's Dave charging down behind me. Eventually we reached a long gently rising traverse which took us back to our ascent route at the base of Pan Point (Glacier Vista). The snowboarders had to hike a bit on the traverse, and also across a 10-ft bare dirt patch right at Glacier Vista. But Dave kindly used his board as a snow shovel, and soon made a skiable track across the dirt patch for me, ensuring a contnuous run on skis all the way from Muir to the parking lot. I guess snowboards are good for something!
